Introductory Note: The Beginning of Rokytera

Thank you for visiting the Rokytera website.

Leopard geckos have been part of my life for more than twenty years. For a long time, however, I kept them purely for enjoyment and had no ambition to breed them. It was only during the past few years that the idea of establishing my own carefully planned breeding project began to take shape. That project eventually received the name Rokytera.

I work as a software developer and AI integration specialist, which means that I spend most of my working day in front of a computer. Spending time with my animals gives me an opportunity to relax. Caring for leopard geckos and other terrarium and aquarium animals allows me to clear my mind, slow down and simply observe the life around me for a while.

This article is the first milestone on a journey that I would like to document regularly on this website. We will see where it takes us.

Why the Rokytera Website Was Created

Rokytera is not intended to be merely a website offering animals for sale. I created it primarily to maintain a long-term record of my breeding project, track the origin and genetics of individual geckos and preserve their photographs, weight records and other information about their development.

I would also like the website to help the future owners of our offspring. When purchasing a gecko, they should be able to learn as much as possible about its origin, parents and the breeding group from which it came. Prospective owners will therefore be able to view not only current photographs of the animal but also its development over time.

Trustworthiness is very important to me. I therefore try to acquire animals from reputable breeders, retain all available information about their origin and clearly distinguish between confirmed genetic traits and those that are only possible.

Focusing on Tangerine Projects

Orange is my favourite colour. For that reason, I intend to focus primarily on Tangerine projects and gradually select animals with intense orange coloration, reliable origins and interesting genetic potential.

My goal is not simply to produce the brightest possible colour. Health, condition and the careful pairing of breeding animals are equally important to me. Establishing a high-quality line is a long-term process, and only the next several generations will show the direction in which Rokytera will ultimately develop.

Our First Breeding Animals

I collected the first animals for the planned Rokytera breeding project on 5 September 2026 at a reptile show in Prague. Their photographs and further information are already available in the breeding groups section.

The foundation of the first group will consist of:

  • a male HC Mandarin Tangerine TA, 66% poss. het. Eclipse,
  • a female W&Y HC Tangerine TA, 66% poss. het. Eclipse,
  • a female Mandarin Tangerine het. TA, poss. het. Eclipse, who will join the group once she is old enough and in suitable condition.

Future Plans

The developing breeding collection also includes Clown and Green & Tangerine females. I originally considered pairing them with the current male, but in the long term I would prefer to find a suitable male for each of them. This would allow me to preserve and continue developing their selectively bred lines instead of producing crosses that would be more difficult to classify.

I would therefore like to establish either a separate Clown project or a breeding group focused on Green & Tangerine first. The final decision will depend mainly on which suitable male I am able to find.

I would also like to add one more Mandarin Tangerine female to the main Tangerine group, ideally hatched in 2025 or earlier. If you know of a suitable female or have one available, please contact me at info@rokytera.cz.

We expect our first home-bred offspring in 2027. Until then, we will be preparing the breeding facilities, monitoring the condition and development of the individual animals and continuing to plan future pairings.

I will be delighted if you follow the beginnings of Rokytera together with us.
